Treatment at Momentum Recovery
Addressing mental health, trauma, and substance misuse
Most people don't find their way to Momentum Recovery because of one problem. It's usually a few things tangled together: anxiety that won't let up, a depression that's been building quietly, old wounds that never healed, and sometimes drinking or drug use that started as a way to cope with all of it.
Our two gender-specific programs in Wilmington, North Carolina, are built to untangle that, starting with mental health.
Two Programs, Each With Its Own Focus
Momentum Recovery runs two separate programs. Each has its own clinical team, its own community, and its own approach to the people it serves.
The Creek was built by a team of men who spent years working in treatment and saw how often it failed young men. Young men's pain tends to show up as anger, withdrawal, risk-taking, or apathy, and many of them don't ask for help until things fall apart.
The Creek meets them where they are, with individualized therapy, time on the water, and a team that looks past the behavior to what's driving it.

Every client begins with a thorough assessment of their mental health, physical health, history, and goals. From there, their team builds a treatment plan around them, and that plan changes as they grow.

Dual Diagnosis Treatment
Momentum Recovery is licensed for both mental health and substance use treatment. That means we can treat someone whose primary concern is their mental health, whether or not substance use is part of their story. When it is, we treat it alongside the mental health and trauma beneath it, with the same team in the same community.
Treatment draws from a range of approaches matched to each person, including CBT, DBT, EMDR, Somatic Experiencing, art therapy, experiential therapy, and group therapy.
Life on the Coast
Our Wilmington location is a key part of our treatment. Surfing, kayaking, paddle boarding, fishing, and swimming give clients a chance to practice presence, build confidence, and rediscover what they enjoy. Back at home, everyday routines like cooking dinner, doing laundry, and keeping a shared space in order build the practical skills that make independent life work.

A Community That Stays With You
Healing happens in relationship. At both The Creek and The Cove, clients build genuine friendships with peers who understand what they're going through. Families are brought into the process through family therapy sessions and intensive workshops. After the program, our alumni community keeps graduates connected through regular events, check-ins, and groups.
Common Questions
Does someone need to have a substance use problem to come to Momentum?
No. Momentum Recovery is licensed to treat mental health as the primary concern. Many of our clients come to us for anxiety, depression, or trauma, with substance use as a secondary issue or not part of the picture at all.
How do I know which program is the right fit?
The Creek serves young men, and The Cove serves women with a focus on trauma. If you're not sure, call our admissions team. We'll talk through what's going on and help you find the right next step, even if that step is somewhere else.
Are families involved in treatment?
Yes. Family therapy and intensive family workshops are part of both programs and are coordinated as part of each client's treatment plan.
