Meet Momentum's Care Team: Head Chef Joshua Jurpik

Joshua Jurpik

Welcome to our Employee Spotlight series, where we take a moment to recognize the incredible individuals who drive the heartbeat of our organization. Our hope is to shine a light on the diverse talents, unique personalities, and wonderful achievements of the people who make up our treatment community. We invite you to get to know the faces behind Momentum's success stories and learn more about the people who make our workplace a vibrant and dynamic home.

What do you enjoy most about working here?

I really enjoy seeing the community grow through the meals that they eat on a day to day basis. There is something rewarding about seeing everyone gathered around the dinner table eating, conversating, and just having a sense of normalcy through their everyday struggles. It is especially rewarding for me to see clients eat food that they have either never had or never thought they would like! We had one client that absolutely despised all fish and after a few weeks they were looking forward to the salmon and flounder.

Can you share a memorable moment or achievement during your time at the company?

It is very difficult to choose just one. If I had to pick, it would probably be last year's oyster roast that Momentum Recovery held for current clients and alumni. Local oysters were served steamed and raw along with many other southern classics such as Brunswick Stew, Country Captain Chicken, and house made cornbread. I remember there being music, football, and a large number of people coming out to support the program. Events at Momentum Recovery always provide extra cohesiveness amongst the community and this day was no different.

Outside of work, what are your hobbies or interests?

I love to experiment with new recipes and I love to eat! Food has always been therapeutic for me and I'm always willing to learn new trends, methods of preparation, and culinary techniques. I love trying new restaurants in the Wilmington and Raleigh area as well. Whenever i'm not cooking or eating I enjoy all things sports, especially football and basketball. I also really enjoy relaxing at the beach, board games, and I enjoy going for a nice run with my dog Jack.

If you could give one piece of advice to new employees, what would it be?

Just remember to have patience. The clients will have their good days and they will definitely have their bad days. It's up to you to set a positive example of what it means to be a productive and healthy person. This program is a game of inches and every good interaction you have with them puts them one step closer towards reaching their destination.
