Journey to Recovery: What Happens in a Drug Rehab for Young Women

Young Adult Women Rehab

So you or a loved one is considering treatment but have no idea what you’re potentially getting yourself into. You’ve got questions. Fears. Concerns. That’s all to be expected and I felt the same way when I went to rehab for the first time. I made it out to be this entire thing that it definitely was not. That’s why we wrote this blog. Hopefully it will shed some light on what happens when you enter a substance abuse treatment program for young adult women. Keep reading to get the inside scoop.

The Admission Process: Stepping into Hope

Your journey begins with a comprehensive assessment. Upon arrival, each woman undergoes a thorough bio-psycho-social evaluation conducted by your treatment team. This assessment includes a detailed medical history, psychological evaluation, and substance use history. The goal is to understand your specific needs, which helps us create a personalized treatment plan with your recovery objectives in mind.

Next, you’ll be introduced to our facility. We strive to ensure that everyone just arriving feels comfortable and welcomed. Our staff provides a tour of the amenities, shows you where you’ll be staying, and the common areas. We know this adjustment can be scary so hopefully this introduction helps in reducing anxiety and making the transition smoother.

Therapeutic Engagement: Healing the Mind & Soul

Once arrived and situated, the core treatment process begins. The Cove program integrates a multitude of therapeutic approaches designed to address the physical, emotional, and psychological aspects of addiction. Our clinical team understands that women have a different relationship to substance abuse than men do and our treatment modalities reflect this.

Individual Therapy: Every young adult woman works closely with a dedicated, licensed therapist to explore the underlying causes of her addiction and works to process and heal from the trauma inflicted by it. These one-on-one sessions focus on developing coping strategies, building self-esteem, and setting personal goals.

Group Therapy: Group sessions create a supportive community where women can share their collective experiences, gain insights from others, support one another, and develop a sense of fellowship. This collective healing process fosters connection and reduces feelings of isolation.

Family Therapy: Addiction is a family disease. The idea of substance abuse being a victimless act is wrong. Family therapy sessions help repair relationships, improve communication, and establish a supportive home environment for when you return home.

Holistic Therapies: We believe in holistic and experiential therapy which is why The Cove includes a variety of practices such as yoga, meditation, art therapy, and equine therapy. These activities promote relaxation, self-expression, and overall well-being while continuing the clinical work started in the classroom.

A Typical Day in Treatment: Structure & Support

A normal day in treatment is designed to provide structure while allowing time for personal reflection and relaxation. Here's what a typical day might look like:

Morning:

  • Wake-Up Call: Early morning starts with a gentle wake-up call, followed by personal time to get ready for the day.
  • Morning Meditation: The day begins with a mindfulness session, helping to center the mind and body.
  • Breakfast: Nutritious meals are served in a communal dining area, encouraging social interaction and healthy eating habits.

Mid-Morning:

  • Group Therapy: Morning group sessions focus on sharing experiences and learning from others in a supportive environment.
  • Workshops/Classes: Afternoons are filled with educational workshops on topics like relapse prevention, life skills, and stress management.

Afternoon:

  • Lunch: A balanced meal is provided, offering time to relax and recharge.
  • Individual Therapy: Scheduled one-on-one sessions with therapists take place throughout the day.
  • Holistic Activities: Engaging in activities like art therapy, equine therapy, or physical exercise.

Evening:

  • Dinner: A communal meal provides an opportunity to reflect on the day and connect with peers.
  • Evening Group Therapy: Additional group sessions focus on reflection, setting goals, and winding down the day.
  • Personal Time: Before bed, women have personal time to read, journal, or engage in quiet activities.
  • Lights Out: A structured bedtime ensures everyone gets the rest needed for recovery.

Aftercare Planning: Preparing for the Future

While you progress through your treatment program, our case management team is preparing a plan for life after rehab. Our aftercare planning includes the creation of a personalized plan that is centered around continued therapy, support group meetings, and sober living arrangements. We provide resources and connections to ensure a smooth transition back into everyday life.
